Incidentally, Bette Midler, through her foundation, has been funding
improvements and maintenance for the parks on the northern end of
Manhattan for several years now, parks that do not have well-heeled
supporters living on their borders. As someone who uses those parks, I
have felt much appreciation for her efforts. The Parks Dept. budget has
been repeatedly slashed under this mayor as well as previous ones.
