I think that what Mary means is that many of the environmental and health
care costs are being passed on to consumers, tax payers and future
generations, at the expense of the better quality of life that would be
possible if food quality were given more emphasis and the bottom line
was given less.
My own feeling is that people WILL pay more for quality but unfortunately,
not everyone has it to give. Vested interests are real interests and must
be overcome by other and more universal vested interests, which will also
be more human.
We all want you to "continue farming and make a profit" at it. (I am speaking
for everyone today).
