On tolerances for contamination: I don't believe that there are any. If it
shows up, it shows up, and percentages ( like the organic tolerances for
synthetic contamination) have yet to be publicized, if they have been
determined. Perhaps Dr. Fagin at Genetic ID has a handle on that.
My concerns regarding dust, i.e., harvest/handling contamination, have not
been allayed since I first brought it up some time ago. If there are no
tolerances, and we are dealing with a molecular/DNA issue, I assume that dust
may trigger a positive result. Therefore, the dust spewing out of a combine
in a 15 knot wind might also impact a neighboring crop. Dr. Fagin claims that
the actual crop, in visible quantities ( he suggested one cup of corn) would
be the amount required to determine GMO contamination. My concerns also are
on augers, bins, trucks, seed cleaning equipment. One mitigating feature on
dust is that the crop may be washed prior to processing.
