The luminous and informative Pam Murray shot me the URL for Dan
Glickman's speech at Purdue last week in which he talked about ag
concentration, critique of biotech, farmers markets, organics, niche
markets, Earl Butz, Dick Lugar, nuclear power (13 years and 3
days after Chernobyl!), why we must all keep jumping, and much more.

Pam, many thanks.
I managed not to die laughing at his comment about biotechnology
being the "twin" of information technology. The only "twinning" I see
is where Marketing Weasels use the methods of persuasion and opinion
engineering to cram technologies down the throats of people who have
some very valid--and unanswered--questions about it. I call that the
Ministry of Truth Guns For Hire phenomenon, not "twinning." But I
digress.
However I do see some cultural commonalities...which may be
place-based. I'll have some thoughts to share about biotech and
information technology...and San Francisco Bay Area culture...soon.
Nothing personal against weasels, by the way.
Finally, anybody know who wrote this speech for D.G.???
peace
misha

Hey, folks, this is a democracy, and in a democracy
the cynics don't decide who's elected to office
unless you let them--unless they're the only ones
who vote. We decide. --U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin, WI
