Re: European Farmland at $100/acre!

This just brings into focus that "the world food problem" is not the
quanity of food produced or a shortage of land on which to produce it but
the distribution of that food by the world economic system. I just saw a
farm magazine yesterday with a cover article about 100 bu. more corn per
acre. What reality are these argibusiness types living in? Spend more
money for new technologies that will produce even more corn? Maybe we can
get the corn price so far below the cost of production as happened with
hogs that the farmers will just give it away because it will cost more to
harvest than what it will bring in the marketplace. I can see it now,
armys of homeless former John Deere employees walking though a bankrupt and
soon to be homeless farmer's field harvesting corn by hand in a "U-pick"
operation to pay off the bankers. This is not my preferred vision of the
future. Mike Miller
