THE "GOOD FOOD FOR ALL" EARTH DAY FESTIVAL

THIS SATURDAY, APRIL 24TH

At Eastern High School, 17th and East Capitol Sts, NE, Washington, DC (1
block from the Stadium Armory Metro). 10am - 5pm

Live music and speeches throughout the day!!
"Life Pieces to Masterpieces" opens the day at 10:20am. Also performing:
Urban Voices of Youth HIP HOP Choir, Salt of the Earth Funk Band, Amiel,
Mustory Reggae Band, Birney Elementary Glee Club.

Informative and Interactive Workshops!!
Healthy cooking and shopping, growing one's own veggies and fruit, creating
a community garden, starting farmers' markets and local food co-ops, buying
directly from farmers, Y2K Crisis and our food supply, community
development and organic agriculture in Cuba. Workshops occur during two
sessions (11:00-12:30pm) and (2:00-3:30pm).

Not to be missed -- The African Heritage Dancers & Drummers; Melvin Deal,
Director!!

Farmers' Market on-site and the "Renewed Soul Food Cook-Off"!! Local
restaurants and food vendors will be selling food in the cafeteria. $300
first-place prize for the cook-off winner, judged on use of healthy
ingredients and taste by a panel of celebrity judges! For info on how to

Children's Activities and Free Health Check-up! Tours of the high school's
garden and greenhouse!

Special events -- Make "Sustainable" Ice Cream with the Chesapeake Bay
Foundation. Meet students from Buffalo involved with an urban agriculture
initiative called "Food from the Hood." Meet two dynamic women from Cuba,
who are leaders in community development and environmental education efforts
in Havana. Using culinary herbs in cooking.

Over 60 sponsors supporting the festival; lots of great exhibits- Thinkin'
Globally, Eatin' Locally!!! The sponsors are organizations, farmers,
businesses and others from throughout the DC area. Many will have exhibit
tables with lots of useful info related to good, healthy food and our
environment.
