Assistant Professor -- Weed Ecology & Management. Tenure track, academic
year appointment; 40% teaching; 60% research. This faculty position will
require an educational and teaching/research background in weed ecology and
management. The successful candidate is expected to develop a vigorous
research program that focuses on weed management and sustainable approaches
to agricultural production (e.g. enhancing profitability, soil quality and
productivity, and/or minimizing inputs of nonrenewable resources). The
research is expected to address important state and regional needs and
involve effective interaction with agricultural constituencies and other
faculty. The successful candidate will develop and teach an upper-level
course in weed ecology & management and an introductory course in
sustainable agriculture. Participation in undergraduate and graduate
education through teaching and advising is expected. Opportunities exist
to participate in a multi-disciplinary cropping systems trial and also to
advise a student-run community supported agriculture project. A Ph.D. in
an appropriate agricultural science is required and must be earned or near
completion by start date of appointment. Additional requirements: 1)
demonstrated effectiveness in teaching and research, particularly related
to sustainable agricultural practices; 2) effective communication skills
and ability to interact productively with scientists from other disciplines
and constituents in the broader agricultural community. Experience in weed
management for vegetable crops, research grant development, and the use of
multi-disciplinary systems approaches to solving agricultural problems is
desired. The position is available September 1, 1999. Applicants must
