Please forward this to interested parties.

The Agricultural Conservation Innovation Center in Charleston, South
Carolina is working with the State of Iowa to develop a new tool to assist
farmers in adopting nutrient management practices. ACIC is seeking two
contractors to conduct two projects related to this effort immediately. The
individuals will not be asked to relocate to Charleston, but internet
access is necessary. Interested parties should fax their resume to Jim
Cubie at ACIC, (843) 740-1331.

Compensation: Negotiable

Hiring: Immediately

Duration: Summer

Qualifications: Graduate training in agriculture with strong familiarity
with nutrient management, familiar with creation of spreadsheets, knowledge
of information gathering sources

1. Nutrient Management Information Collection:

In many states, extension and other researchers have conducted studies of
nutrient management systems. The collection of this information could
provide a valuable data set for developing insurance policies to protect
farmers who are adopting nutrient management systems. It will also permit
a comparison of the operation of systems in different localities, which
will assist overall rating reliability. ACIC seeks a contractor to conduct
a thorough search for all available data on legume/manure crediting systems
for major legume (alfalfa, clover, etc.) and manure (pork, dairy, poultry,
beef, etc.). Manure should be split between liquid and dry forms. He/she
will also collect available data related to nutrient management protocols
from commercial sources of nitrogen. Finally, the individual will include
a collection of peer reviewed and extension published and unpublished material.

2. Expert Panel Coordinator :

An individual is needed to coordinate an “expert panel review session” to
assess information needed to develop risk management instruments, which
increase nutrient management system adoption by farmers. The expert panel
would examine such issues as how weather events during the critical
nutrient up-take period can determine outer bounds of risk, whether crop
growth models or weather models can be used to derive actuarially
significant information, and other systems that may derive such information.
