I think an even better reason to support oversight/regulation of engineered plant pesticides is that someone might put something really toxic into a plant in order to protect it from bugs. The big concern with Bt isn't that it might hurt people, but that may not be true of the next "plant pesticide" that comes out of the lab. Of course, this still begs the question of where or why we draw the line between inherent or bred-in chemical protectorants (like alkaloids in potatoes and rhubarb) vs those that have been put there via GE....
