I've had the best results from changing the habitat to discourage slugs.
This meant removing areas where they can hide during the day- moist,
shaded areas. Specifically, boards and large rocks, leaf mulch, keeping
areas around crops mowed short.
Knowing where they hide during the day be used to trap them.
BTW, I read some years ago about a gardener who used beer traps. He
figured that he was luring slugs from everyone else's garden to his.
Kind of like pheromone traps for Japanese beetles.
