strawberry management

Last spring I planted 1000 strawberry plants in rows 36" apart. I mulched
between and around quite heavily with hay and picked the blossoms off.
Now the plants are out of bounds. The careful observer can see the rows,
but they have really spread. Is this a problem? What should I do to keep
them healthy and productive for this season? AFter that what should I do?
Till them in? Thanks ahead of time.
