WHEN: OCTOBER 12-15, 1999

HOSTS: Lincoln University, Jefferson City, Missouri; University of Missouri,
Columbia; USDA-CSREES

The Second National Small Farm Conference will provide an opportunity for
people in the public and private sectors, including community based
organizations, land-grant institutions, small and medium sized farmers to
strengthen collaboration and partnerships to work more effectively with the
small farm community. Participation is the key to the conference's success.
Hands-on workshops, open forum discussions, and participant-organized
networking sessions will be key features of the conference. Some of the
issues that participants will address include: marketing strategies, value
added enterprises, grant writing, business and entrepreneurial skills,
farmer-to-farmer and beginning farmer networks.

Representatives from USDA and its partners will make reports on follow-up
from the 1996
National Small Farm Conference held in Nashville, Tennessee, and on the
implementation of the
recommendations made by the National Commission on Small Farms. The
conference will
include poster presentations and exhibits. Solicitations for posters and
exhibits are also posted at
this website.
