SUSTAINABLE agriculture

The recent posting about Dr. Blank's research reminded me of the comment from
the sweet lady who was "managing" a little farmer's market. I had just told
her that I was going to have to stop attending because I wasn't making any
money.

"But Dori, you have to understand that none of us are there to make money,
we're there to have a nice time visiting with each other."

Sorry. I'm doing sustainable agriculture, and if it ain't economically
sustainable then I can't call it sustainable.

I don't for a minute propose that it isn't a challenge to include economic
sustainability. Sometimes it requires hard choices. But it absolutely must
be included.
