Farmers' Market Trust
Summer Associates
Work with a dynamic, leading-edge community food security, hunger
prevention, and sustainable farming non-profit advocacy group located in
Philadelphia. The Farmers' Market Trust operates programs to improve the
food and farming systems in the Greater Philadelphia region. We work with
communities and schools to build markets for fresh, affordable and
nutritious foods; families to teach meal preparation, good dietary and
preventive health habits; farmers to secure markets for their crops; and
policy-makers to educate them about problems with the current food system
and the things they can do to change it for the better.
The Farmers' Market Trust has three summer positions open:
Assistant to the Executive Director - Responsible for assisting the
Executive Director with government relations, foundation development, new
program implementation, inter-agency relations and agency administration.
Research special projects. Attend meetings for the Executive Director.
Handle some administrative needs. Report to the Executive Director.
Food Security Meeting Planner - Responsible for staffing a planning
committee for a major regional conference on food and farming issues, to be
held in Philadelphia in December 1999. Responsible for coordinating meetings
and implementing decisions. Handle logistical details and orchestrate
program arrangements. Report to Senior Management Team
Technology Assistant and Web Site Designer - Responsible for
coordinating
and implementing a computer network system linking 12 office computers and
remote and on-site staff, and developing an Internet communications
capability and enhancing the ability of the agency to disseminate reports,
technical papers and general information. Report to Senior Management Team
and work with computer consultant.
GIS Specialist - Create computer-generated maps of fresh food supply
and
demand factors in Philadelphia, that will be used in food policy analysis
and program design. Some field work and access to a Philadelphia area
academic computer mapping facility is needed to complete this work. Graduate
level experience in computerized geographic information systems including
data acquisition, manipulation, and production of mapped and tabular
products is required. Report to Director of Community Markets.
QUALIFICATIONS
Undergraduate or graduate students. Able to manage projects to completion,
work individually to meet goals, and organize time. Strong oral and written
communication skills.
