malarial mosquitos

I have found from experience that essential citronella oil and lavender
oil (can be blended with a base oil such as jojoba) rubbed on the skin
can be very effective against mosquitos. Perhaps the oils could be
thinned in water and sprayed on nets.

Lemon scented geranium also effective - can be planted and the leaves
rubbed on the skin.

In terms of reducing populations of mosquitos - has the use of ddt or
land management practices drastically reduced the lizards, spiders, frogs
and fish in the area - creatures which help to eat the insects and larvae
- perhaps habitat creation for the predators could at least reduce some
of the numbers.

I also found while working in southern africa that eating Vitamin B1,
cumin, chilli and garlic seemed to help. Again, not a silver bullet
answer.

Deepest sympathy to be extended - this disease causes such ravages and
can feel so hard to control.

Best wishes, Joane Tippett
