Look into the righteous justifications of the USDA for developing
terminator - to expand the market for GE crops in the third world.
This is not an inference but an explicit justification. Where is
Monsanto building all that new glyphosate capability? Why did
Monsanto take the extraordinary initiative of trying (covertly, of
course) to form a liason with the much revered Grameen Bank of
Bangladesh? Why the front page ad campaign in Europe, with the
deliciously Machiavellian touch of parading a list of sign- on's by
gullible third world leaders all about how GE was critical to
"feeding the world"? Why has no less an organization than the
prestigious ICAR of India - which has plenty of GE research underway -
taken the unprecedented step of demanding a boycott of terminator?
And ditto for the CGIAR, which runs the 21 international research
stations that gave us the green revolution (IRRI, CIMMYT, CIAT (where
I did my own PhD research), ICRISAT, CIP, IITA etc.).
So, sad to say, we are sowing the seeds of our own destruction, to
say nothing of that of the Mexican, Nigarian, and Malaysian farmers
we claim to want to help. Ann
