Winter Workshops by Innovative Farmers of Ohio
Innovative Farmers of Ohio is sponsoring winter workshops for farmers and
others interested in the latest innovations in sustainable agriculture.
According to Charlie Eselgroth, chair of the IFO Education Committee,
"These workshops are designed to give farmers practical management
strategies for making their farms more profitable and environmentally
friendly, without investing large sums of money. This isn't theoretical
stuff. This how-to information from the people that are making it work".
The first workshop "Pork Production Options for the Family Farm," will be
held Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999 from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the Ross
County Service Center in Chillicothe. Featured will be pastured hog
production (pasture, not dirt lots), hoop house hog production, and direct
The second workshop will be "Using Less Herbicide: Cut Costs and Maintain
Production". It will be held Wednesday March 17, 1999 from 10:00 a.m. -
3:00 p.m. at Clark State Community College in Springfield. Featured will
be sessions on crop rotation effects on weeds, reduced herbicide rates,
using a rotary hoe for weed control, cover crops to control weeds in
no-till, and banding herbicides with ridge till.
Co-sponsors for these workshops are The Ohio State University Agroecosystem
Management Program and the Ohio State University Extension Sustainable
Agriculture Team. The Pork Production Workshop is also co-sponsored by the
