A new publication that highlights ways for producers to diversify in
response to today's tough economic conditions is now available in print or
on the web, courtesy of the Sustainable Agriculture Network (SAN).

As farmers and ranchers contend with some of the lowest commodity prices
we've seen in years, it's an apt time to consider diversifying. The
12-page, color publication encompasses alternative cash crops, cover crops
and agroforestry -- and how producers have used these strategies to
increase profits. At the same time, the featured producers have improved
their stewardship of natural resources by reducing pest pressures,
introducing nitrogen-fixing crops and lessening erosion. A detailed list of
expert sources who can provide more information round out the publication.

"Diversify Crops to Boost Profits and Stewardship," is available at
http://www.sare.org/diversify/ where you can download an Adobe Acrobat
file for printing. Or to receive color copies by mail, contact SAN at
aadeyemi@nal.usda.gov

SAN is the national outreach arm of USDA's Sustainable Agriculture Research
and Education (SARE) program.
