Genetically engineered Bt crops threaten the livelihoods of farmers
everywhere, and in particular organic farmers. Studies have shown
that engineered crops can outcross in the environment, potentially
contaminating nearby organic fields. Beneficial insects and fragile
soil ecology can also be adversely affected by these crops. Perhaps
most worrisome is the issue of insect resistance, which means the
loss of Bt as organic farmers' best and often only pest control
option. HELP US STOP Bt CROPS! Over thirty organic farmers and
farming organizations, with coordination by IFOAM and Greenpeace, are
planning to file a lawsuit calling on EPA to cancel the registration
of Bt crops. We need farmers who are concerned about the loss of Bt,
especially corn, potato, and cotton growers, to join this action.
THERE IS NO FINANCIAL OR TIME COMMITMENT -- WE MERELY NEED TO SHOW
THE COURTS THAT THE PEOPLE WHO ARE MOST AFFECTED ARE WITH US.
Please respond ASAP if you are interested -- we need to finalize our
list by early Feb! Call, fax, or e-mail
