Position Announcement: Associate Program Director, Alternative Swine
Production Systems Program, University of Minnesota

Location: Swine Center, University of Minnesota-St. Paul, or West Central
Experiment Station, Morris, MN.

Job Responsibilities: Provide leadership and exercise independent judgement
in the administration of an alternative swine production systems program.
The individual will report to the Executive Director of the Minnesota
Institute for Sustainable Agriculture.

40% time - Create working partnerships between farmers, researchers, and
community organizations to promote sustainable swine production. This
includes developing information, educational programs, and research to meet
the needs of alternative swine producers.

20% time - Coordinate program to develop financial analysis and case
studies for alternative swine production systems

20% time - Coordinate program to develop alternative marketing
opportunities for swine producers

10% time - Coordinate a series of education programs that may include field
days, workshops, and conferences on alternative swine systems

5% time - Maintain a database of individuals in the state interested in
alternative swine production

5% time - Coordinate the development of a plan for funding future research
and education programs on alternative swine production.

Starting Date and Duration: Available March 1, 1999 and extending to June
30,2000

Qualifications: Required: BA or BA degree; specialized knowledge and/or
academic preparation in issues relating to agriculture; experience in
outreach and public relations; ability to initiate and complete tasks
independently; and strong communication, writing, and coordinating skills.
Desired: MS degree in an agriculture-related discipline; experience working
with animal agriculture, initiatives of local nonprofit organizations, and
public agencies; and experience working with teams of researchers and
farmers.

Salary: commensurate with experience
