creating a listserv - Can someone help her?

Hi, my name is Kirsten Saylor and I am program coordinator for a
non-profit organization called Community Harvest. One of the projects
we want to start (and much demand for) is a listserv to serve the
washington DC area. I personally moderate a coalition of diverse
individuals who are working to make the DC foodsystem more local, more
just and more sustainable. We need a listserv in order to make
information more accessible. We spend too much time at our meetings
telling people what conferences and meetings are going on.

If you could share some of your moderatoring experience with me, as well
as how to actually start a listserv and/or resources -- I would greatly
appreciate it.
