Victoria,

The site listed below has on on-line version of Soil Cation Ratios for Crop
Production--a University of Minnesota Extension Publication that includes
references.

http://www.extension.umn.edu/DC/item.html?item=6437

It argues that calcium/magnesium ratios do not affect yield. However, some
people argue that nutrient ratios can affect soil tilth and crop quality,
though I do not know of supporting research.

Does anyone know of scientific articles which deal with nutrient balance in
soils? How much of each nutrient in what proportions are best for crop
growth? I can't seem to turn anything up on the databases.
