ANNOUNCING COMFOOD-L
A new server focusing on community food security

WHAT IS COMFOOD-L?

COMFOOD-L is an electronic mail list created to link individuals and
organizations involved with or interested in community food security.
The server has three broad purposes:

1. COMFOOD-L is available to all subscribers to exchange ideas and
information on CFS-related topics (see examples below).

2. COMFOOD-L provides a forum for USDA-funded Community Food Projects.
We encourage groups involved with these initiatives to use this server
to share information on activities, to discuss issues, to make
technical assistance inquiries, and to share reports or other
documents of interest to subscribers.

3. COMFOOD-L is an on-line information provider for the Community Food
Security Coalition (CFSC). The CFSC will routinely post notices about
meetings, T&TA opportunities, policy initiatives, and other business
of the organization, as well as feature articles or other information
from its newsletter and Web-site. Information about CFS-related
activities of other organizations, agencies, etc. may also be posted
by the Coalition or by other groups.

HOW TO SUBSCRIBE TO COMFOOD-L:

To subscribe to the COMFOOD-L list, send as the text of your message:
SUBSCRIBE COMFOOD-L YOUR NAME

Include only your name or organizational identifier. Do not include
your email address. For example:

SUBSCRIBE COMFOOD-L Hartford Food System

----------------------------------------

POSTING TO COMFOOD-L

To post a message to all subscribers on the list, send email to
COMFOOD-L@SARDONYX.TUFTS.EDU

COMFOOD-L is an unmoderated server (anyone may post an item directly
to all others on the list). Subject matter posted should be
appropriate to the purposes of the list, and of interest to multiple
subscribers. We hope you will use this listserve to raise issues,
ask questions, post responses, send action alerts, announce job
openings and let colleagues know about upcoming events.

MORE ABOUT COMFOOD-L CONTENT

Postings by any subscriber may include, but are not limited to:

* Broad or specific discussions on the issues and strategies
relating to community food security; similarly, articles of general
interest;

* Requests for information or assistance on topics related to CFS
research, programs, and contact names or project descriptions on
research related to your work;

* Requests for information about organizations working in specific
areas (for example, which groups in a region are doing entrepreneurial
gardening programs);

* Requests for technical assistance or related help in designing or
implementing projects.

* Descriptions of new activities your organization is initiating.

* Announcements of CFS-related activities - workshops, training
sessions, conferences;

* Job notices or internship opportunities.

-----------------------------------------------------

FOCUS ON COMMUNITY FOOD SECURITY

COMFOOD-L's focus is Community Food Security. Community food security
promotes comprehensive strategies to provide an affordable and quality
food supply for all members of a community, and addresses a broad
range of problems affecting the food system, economic opportunity,
community development, and the environment. Since many of you
subscribe to other on-line servers that focus on sustainable
agriculture and food systems topics, we hope to avoid redundancy by
maintaining this server's emphasis on community food security and
other community food-related topics.

-----------------------------------------------------

COMFOOD-L SPONSORSHIP AND COORDINATION

COMFOOD-L is sponsored by the Community Food Security Coalition. The
server itself is housed at Tufts University and administered through
the Agriculture, Food and Environment Program at the School of
Nutrition Science and Policy. If you have a question concerning the
use or operation of COMFOOD-L, contact Ann Cherin, List Manager, by
email at:
anncherin@worldnet.att.net

General comments and input about this server are welcome.
