Hi all -

I wanted to let you all know about a wonderful new book, "The Truth About
Breast Cancer: A 7-Step Prevention Plan." I strongly recommend that you
look at this book if you want to educate oneself or someone else about this
threatening disease, in a way that gets beyond the mainstream aphormisms
and into the real causes and thus cures.

I like this book first and foremost because of the way it talks frankly and
directly about the the (obvious!) link between carcinogens and cancer. (So
many mainstream books/articles don't even bring that up, or only
tangentially.)

For instance, Chapter 6 (22 pages) focusses on the links between
carcinogens and cancer, while Ch 12 (6 pages) focusses on Minimizing
Exposure to Toxic Chemicals and Chapter 10 (6 pages) recommends Going
Organic.

But the book shows a deeper understanding of this topic throughout itspage,
and gives its information in a very readable yet fact-based way, with
plenty of great statistics and footnoted references to back itself up.

For instance, Chapter 3 discusses the uncertainties and risks of
mamography, and alternative assessment devices. Chapter 4 discusses dietary
risk, focussing on fat in the diet - types of fat, recommended percentages
- and, most unusually, that fat bioaccumulates toxic chemicals. I can't
tell you how many times I look at information on breast cancer that doesn't
mention carcinogens, and if it does, doesn't think to mention it in its
conversation of fat in the diet.

Chapter 5 discusses high-risk foods, and includes discussion of problems
with milk, including rBGH, pesticides, and antibiotics; meat; irradiated
foods; fats, including Olestra. The book also discusses
Hormone-Replacement Therapy, Stress, Exercise, Pure Water, and more.

It's so wonderful to see these vital topics pulled together and presented
to people so well and in a way that people can clearly see the connection
with them and one of the fiercest diseases of our times. It's so vital
that people see that the best way to protect themselves on so many levels
is to greatly reduce our toxic exposure, and that toxics are not some
abstract issue but materials that are doing great harm to ourselves and our
planet. A book like this can really help bring that point home!

Of course, I should say, that I'm only slightly influenced by the fact that
the author included a recommendation for people to buy our Organic
Traveler's Guide, calling it "An outstanding guide to northern California's
wine country." This only shows the author's good taste!

Note: The book is divided into three parts - Risk Factors for Breast
Cancer; Preventing Breast Cancer (7 steps); and Cooking for Health.
