Re: food safety in organic foods

I recommend reading the Consumer Reports article on ""free-range""
chickens. The authors note that some official definitions are highly
problematic, including the that of "free-range" (which, if I recall
correctly, requires only a postage-stamp size outside pen). My reaction to
that article was that it related mainly to marketing strategies of
conventional agriculture and the resulting food safety and consumer
economic issues. I am not surprised that Dennis Avery found the conclusions
congenial. I, however, saw that the article was largely irrelevant to the
important issues of sustainable agriculture.
