Try PINE, MH, ELM mail readers. I use PINE and MH (Mail Handler).
MH is useful for putting large numbers of mail messages in your PINE
incoming folder, read or unread, into its own "inbox" folder for later
processing thus eliminating the backlog and making daily mail reading
easier. MH is command-line driven and may lend itself to the development
of shell scripts that could automate the processing of various categories of
SANET-MG articles. UNIX World magazine, Nov. 1993, Vol. 10 #11 had a 5 page
article on MH, "TUTORIAL: Power Mail Handling for UNIX Systems", page 66,
with descriptions of features and explanation of usage with examples.
