Environmentally Sound Agriculture
Conference

April 20-22, 1994

Sheraton Plaza Hotel
Orlando, Florida

sponsored by:

University of Florida

co-sponsored by:

Soil and Water Division
American Society of Agricultural Engineers
Florida Section of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers

Introduction

This national conference will highlight state-of-the-art
technology for sustaining an environmentally sound and productive
agricultural industry in the urbanizing United States. Awareness
of and sensitivity to the world's environmental problems are
forcing society, including the agricultural sector, to
re-evaluate its current modes of operation. Growers as well as
environmentalists and government agencies need to implement and
promote management practices which enhance environmental
preservation while maintaining an adequate food supply and the
economic vitality of agriculture. Much of the necessary
information is available and needs to be integrated into a
useable form in order to solve many of the environmental problems
facing agriculture today.

Who should attend

Everyone interested in agriculture and its impact on the
environment is invited to participate. Those in government
agencies responsible for research, resource management, water
quality implementation, and regulatory programs are strongly
encouraged to attend. The conference should be particularly
useful to agricultural research and extension specialists and
natural resource regulatory agencies' staff. Growers,
grower-association staff, and agricultural consultants as well as
environmentalists, consumer groups and news-media representatives
wishing to learn more about environmentally sound agriculture
also will greatly benefit by participating.

Program Summary

The two-day conference program will consist of two morning
general sessions with invited keynote speakers and eighteen
concurrent sessions with over one hundred technical
presentations. The concurrent sessions are intended to allow
individuals with interest in a specific commodity or
environmental issue to interact for greater in-depth coverage.
There will be two types of paper presentations at the conference:
1) lecture presentations, the traditional presentation form, and
2) poster presentations, for more personal interaction. Because
of the number of presentations, only the general sessions and a
summary of the concurrent sessions are described in this program.
