Information Sought on Mississippi River Ecology and Cultures

The Antioch College Environmental Field Program is a traveling
academic study quarter which focuses on a specific bioregion of North
America each summer. The 1994 EFP will cover the Mississippi River,
from its headwaters in Minnesota to its delta. Ten undergraduate
students will travel with two leaders by canoe, van and other means
for approximately 11 weeks. The courses for this quarter include River
and Estuarine Ecosystems; Natural Resources of the Mississippi River;
Agriculture, Technology and Society; and Cultural Ecology. The course
of study will pay particular attention to toxic pollution of the
Mississippi environment, the environmental justice movement, and the
impact of the recent floods on the upper Mississippi River. On the trip,
students will conduct independent research, and meet with consultants
(i.e. - field faculty). We are seeking contacts with professors,
environmental activists, industry spokespeople, government officials,
farmers and others to meet with during the trip.

If you know of contacts, readings or other resources relating to any of
the subjects mentioned above, or if you would be willing to meet with
the group, your help would be greatly appreciated. Please send
information to any of the addresses below.

Thank you,
Richard Boylan - EFP Leader, 1994
