On Friday, November 5, 1993, the United States Government's Food and
Drug Administration (FDA), caving into pressure from giant drug and
chemical corporations, approved the commercial sale and use of
foods derived from dairy cows that are injected with a genetically-
engineered hormone known as recombinant "Bovine Growth Hormone"
(rBGH), (also known as "Bovine Somatotropin" or BST).
Starting on February 3, 1994 (the date that rBGH goes on the market),
milk, cheese, butter, yogurt, ice cream, beef and infant formula that
is sold and consumed throughout the United States will be laced with
genetically-altered, artificial hormones.
What's more -- you will NOT be allowed [to know how] to avoid eating
foods [contaminated] with the recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone
because the [corporate] United States Government Food and Drug
Administration REFUSES to require labeling of rBGH-derived products!!
The FDA decision is an outrage, considering that, according to recent
surveys, NINETY-EIGHT PERCENT of American consumers favor labeling
of rBGH [contaminated] products so that they can avoid buying them.
Recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone foods are the first Frankenstein
foods ("Frankenfoods") -- the first genetically-engineered food
products EVER to enter the food supply! These are potentially
dangerous food products whose acceptance into the marketplace will
set an even more dangerous precedent. Unless it is defeated by a
massive consumer boycott, rBGH will open up the supermarket doors to
thousands of other harmful genetically-altered foods that are being
engineered in [profit-greedy, corporate] laboratories.
Regularly injecting cows with genetically-engineered Bovine Growth
Hormones drastically increases the amounts of milk that the cows
produce. Monsanto Corporation, the giant chemical conglomerate that
won the United States Government Food & Drug Administration approval
to market rBGH to American dairy farmers under the brand name
POSILAC, is pushing the recombinant "Bovine Growth Hormone" on the
dairy industry as a way to squeeze more milk from every cow, boosting
milk production by as much as 25 percent -- and thus boosting its
corporate profits.
But rBGH is a disaster for the cows, the small dairy farmers, and the
United States taxpayers. And rBGH will likely have HARMFUL EFFECTS on
human health [our health and our children's health] and on our
environment, as well. Recombinant "Bovine Growth Hormone" is like
"crack" for cows. It revs up their systems and forces them to produce
a lot more milk -- but it also makes them sick! According to numerous
studies (and according to Monsanto's OWN package insert for POSILAC),
cows injected with rBGH suffer from increased udder infections
(mastitis) and from greater stress and disease. rBGH-injected cows
also may suffer from severe reproductive problems, digestive
disorders, foot and leg ailments, and persistent body sores and
lacerations.
Sick cows make sick milk. The United States Food and Drug
Administration has released studies indicating that milk from cows
injected with the recombinant "Bovine Growth Hormone" has more
saturated fat and less protein than regular milk. The Food and Drug
Administration and Monsanto Corporation also ADMIT that the
infections that rBGH causes in cows may lead to large amounts of pus
in milk.
[JD: "Pus" is defined as "thick, opaque, usually yellowish-white
fluid matter, comprising an exudate which contains leukocytes,
tissue debris and microorganisms." Pus is the waste product of
bodily infections. This is what our corporate United States
Government is SECRETLY poisoning us with.
