case study

I am considering apprenticing on a draft animal farm next year
from about March to November, and as part of the experience I would
like to do a case study of the operation, keeping a diary, keeping
track of energy and money flows, etc so that I will have something to
show and so that I can learn as much as possible.

The question at this point is, what do I need to do a case
study? are there different kinds of case studies I could do? are there
any books I could look at on the matter? given that I would have other
duties there it can't be something really time-intensive, so what
might I reasonably expect to pull off with only an hour or two a day
to devote to the study? Post or mail me.
