OFRF BOARD OF DIRECTORS UPGRADES GRANT AWARD PROGRAM
& ANNOUNCES NEW STAFF POSITION

(Santa Cruz, Ca.) The Organic Farming Research Foundation Board of
Directors wishes to announce a number of decisions approved at its November
6-7, 1998 Board meeting. The Board has increased the available pool of FY
1999 grant award funds to $125,000 up from $70,000 in 1998. The Board has
also raised the maximum amount available to $10,000 per project although it
still encourages proposals in the $5,000 to $7,000 range. After reviewing
the final results of the 1997 National Organic Farmers’ Survey, the Board
wishes to announce a special interest in receiving research project
proposals emphasizing the study of weed management strategies in organic
production systems.

The deadlines for submitting proposals to OFRF are January 15, and July 15,

New Position Available
To help facilitate the preparation of research proposals to OFRF and
elsewhere, and to help circulate OFRF-funded and other appropriate
research project results to organic farmers and others, the OFRF Board of
Directors also approved the creation of a new Technical Program Coordinator
staff position to be located at the OFRF office in Santa Cruz, California.
The person who fills this position will have a strong academic background
combined with a working knowledge of organic farming systems. The full-time
staff position (with benefits) is open for applications effective
immediately. A letter of introduction, resume, vitae and a writing sample
must be submitted to OFRF on or before February 1, 1999. OFRF has adopted a
