We would like to introduce ourselves as new members of this listserv -
Paul and Alison Wiediger. We farm 84 certified (at this time) organic
acres in south central Kentucky. We raise about 2 acres of organic
veggies, cut flowers, and potted perennials. We also have a small and
growing beef herd from which we intend to direct market grass finished
beef. We have been eating our own 'salad bar beef' for several years
and think, with our 70+ acres of grass, it'll be a nice addition to the
farm's income. We are trialing Murray Greys as our main breed, owing to
their performance in Oz on grass. We also raise 'salads in the snow',
lettuces, spinach and oriental greens in an unheated greenhouse (tall
cold frame) all winter, followed by tomatoes which we start marketing in
mid-May. We sometimes feel a little isolated here, and hope to expand
our knowledge (we've both been growing organically over 20 years, 9 on
this farm, but there's always more to learn !) by attending this forum.
