I recall reading a discussion of how to produce "less-likely" to have
disease sweet pots from slips in SSE's/Susan Ashworth's (sp?) book "seed
To Seed". If i remember right it amounted to starting the suspect slips
in pots and then cutting off the growing shoot and rooting it and not
planting the actual slip. This is my vague recollection and if you can't
get hold of her book, let me know and I'll look up the actual details,
instead of talking off the top of my head about what I know not :-)

btw, I was curious why you think it is the heirlooms that introduced
the disease?
