I'm quite interested in responses to that post, too. We had a sweet potato
problem this year, as did most of our neighbors. As best I can identify it
from my _Plant Disease Handbook_ (Westcott, 3rd Ed, somewhat dated), it's
scurf, or Monilochaetes infuscans. But I don't know for sure. Our extension
agent is very hard to reach, and the lab I sent samples to hasn't responded yet
Even if my guess is right, I'd hate to offer it up to someone else,
especially since the symptoms on our sweet potatoes don't seem to exactly
match the symptoms on his. Which is to say, no reply may be better than a
misleading one.

I would happily have responded to that one, too, Betsy, except that I'm not
sure what you mean by a pill bug. The only one I know is the glossy
pillbug, which is a kind of dung beetle, and we don't control those, we
encourage them. They bury animal dung at the bottom of their burrows,
thereby putting fertlizer right where we want it.
