Does it work to plant by Moon Signs?

Hi. A guy in my area who does a lot of gardening told me a few years ago
that he always plants by moon signs because the plants grow much better.
I also heard before that weeds and other unwanted plants are less likely
to grow back if weeding is done under other moon signs. I'd like to know
of anyone's personal experience or of studies and the results. Is there
info on this in the list archives? What I remember is that the water
signs and maybe earth signs as well as the air sign of Libra are good
times for planting and the other signs are good times for weeding. Can
anyone confirm or correct me? If the weather continues to be rainy here
as it was this year, I probly won't be able to go by the moon signs much
anyway, but I'd like to try, since it's a cheap method to possibly raise
