"Regulation of Corporate Hog Farming Emerges As a Key Election
Issue in America's Heartland." Washington Post, 28 October 98,
A24.
The regulation of corporate hog farms has become an election
issue in many states this year as environmentalists and rural
activists try to bring the farms under tighter regulation and
the pork industry fights to make it unconstitutional to single
out hog farms for special regulation. Opponents of hog farms
say the farms threaten the groundwater with nitrates and foul
the air with "hog smog." Sidebar: "Pig Politics" lists
hog-farm issues in North Carolina, Illinois, Missouri, and
Colorado.
