Keep America Growing: Balancing Working Lands and Development Conference
Information
Date: June 6-9, 1999
Adam's Mark Hotel =96 Philadelphia, PA
The competition for land, especially productive working lands is increasing
as population grows and technology improves. We need to meet the
legitimate need for development in ways that protect productive and scenic
lands and habitats. Doing so will require communication among the various
parties that play a role in how we use our land resources. The
communication must start from the premise that we can neither eliminate
development nor ignore the value of working lands. This conference is
intended to create a dialogue that will consider development and the need
to protect working lands in a manner that recognizes the legitimate
interest of both of these objectives. The conference will address the
following issues:
What contributes to sprawl?
Can we have growth and development without destroying working lands?
Why save working lands?
What is destroying working lands?
What can we do to protect working lands?
What is sustainable, responsible development?
Who Should Attend Keep America Growing?
Professionals and public officials involved with land use issues.
Professionals and public officials working on issues related to or that
have an influence on land use such as transportation, rural development or
urban development.
