Methyl Bromide Correction and Update
October 8, 1998
Many thanks to all who have called and emailed to inform us
that you have responded to the methyl bromide action alert.
Apologies regarding the incorrect email address. The correct
address for Vice President Gore is
vice.president@whitehouse.gov.
The bill to delay the methyl bromide ban was passed by
Congress Tuesday evening, and is currently being considered
by the President. It would also be useful to contact
President Clinton directly with your views: by email at
president@whitehouse.gov, or by phone at (202) 456-1414.
In addition to the issues we outlined in the October 7 Action
Alert, it is also worth noting that NASA recently reported
one of the largest and deepest ozone holes ever over the
Antarctic. To delay the phaseout of methyl bromide, a fast
acting and extremely potent ozone depleting chemical, when
the ozone layer is showing such severe damage would be
irresponsible policy. Ozone depletion leads to increased UVb
radiation, which is known to cause skin cancer, cataracts,
and harm to the immune system.
Again, apologies for the inconvenience, and thank you for
your important activism on this issue!
