The CSA Farm Network is a three year project of the Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA) and funded by the Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Research & Education (SARE) program .
The project utilizes the resources of the seven state NOFA organizations (NY, VT, NH, MA, CT, RI, & NJ), the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) in Maine, and the BioDynamic Association in Pennsylvania to gather listings of all the CSAs in the Northeast. Over the three years, the project annually surveys these CSAs as to their practices, programs and experiences and then reports the results, along with pertinent research, essays, profiles, articles and resources.
The resulting publications are valuable resources for CSAıs everywhere -- for existing CSA farmers and Core Group members, farmers interested in getting into CSA, specialty crop producers(fruit, honey, maple, milk, eggs, etc) looking to link with CSAs and for researchers and policy makers. The direct face-to-face relationship between farmers and consumers represents a viable new opportunity for small-scale, local farms to survive the vicissitudes of todayıs global economy.
Now in its third year, the CSA Farm Network project is seeking appropriate CSA articles, research, personal experiences and descriptions of state-of-the-art practices for the final Volume III publication due to be printed in January.
Coordinator and Editor of the project is Steve Gilman, a farmer, writer and President of the Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA) Interstate Council. Type and Production is by Stuart McCarty. Artwork by Karen Kerney.
