AGRICULTURE PROJECT FIELD COORDINATOR
Rural Advancement Foundation International-USA (RAFI-USA) is seeking highly
motivated applicants for the position of Project Field Coordinator for its
Tobacco Communities Project. The project supports farm enterprise
development among tobacco farmers and promotes policies that support
reinvestment in the economic development of tobacco communities. RAFI-USA
is a non-profit organization headquartered in Pittsboro, North Carolina,
which is dedicated to the preservation of family farms, diversity,
community and equity in agriculture.
The multi-year project is now in its second year and works in seven eastern
North Carolina counties with farmers and others to supplement or replace
lost tobacco income and to sustain communities that have depended on
tobacco income. The seven counties are Wayne, Harnett, Johnston, Columbus,
Pitt, Wake, and Edgecombe.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to work well with farmers
Agriculture experience and/or education
Excellent communication skills
Strong self--motivation and capacity to work independently at times
Ability to work well in a team and congenial work style
Familiarity with rural North Carolina culture
Ability to travel
Ability to work flexible hours
Community organizing experience
Education and/or Experience with Small Business Development
Dedication to fairness, diversity and sustainability of agriculture.
Computer literacy
Responsibilities:
Outreach to Farmers: Recruit farmers, work directly with individual
farmers on the farm, organize farmer meetings, organize group workshops,
produce educational materials, arrange farm tours and exchanges, and create
other educational opportunities for farmers
Support for New Farm Plans: Work with teams to develop and implement
individual farm plans and on-farm demonstrations. Conduct research related
to potential farm enterprises.
Form Teams: Work in partnership with RAFI staff, farmers, extension
specialists, market specialists, church leaders, health leaders and others
to carry out project goals .
Policy Education and Impact: Work with teams in the state and region to
explore policy, marketing and other incentives for on-farm diversification
and community enterprises, conduct research related to the project's policy
objectives and advocate for policy objectives.
Salary and Benefits:
This is a full-time position. Salary begins at $30,000 with medical and
dental benefits, four weeks paid vacation. This is a two year position with
possible extension.
