Weeder Geese

Hello All,
Such talk reminds me of the weeder geese stories in Michael Ableman's new book, "On Good Land: The Autobiography of an Urban Farm" Chronicle Books, San Fran., 1998. An absolutely delicious book. (I had dreams of juicy watermelons the night after I read it.)

Anyway, Abelman's geese story ends with, "So I packed four live geese and a gander into banana boxes and released them at the man-made lake nearby. Occasionally I ride my bike down to the lake and from a distance watch as small crowds of visitors enjoy the antics of our ex-geese."

Socializing geese to farm life proved beyond the abilities of the the people at Fairview Gardens.

And as for the equinox passage. Things actually feel a bit calmer here in Philadelphia. (As if one could tell about such an inherently crazy scene.) Although I did observe a local vagabond (AKA homeless person) who had been walking around every morning with a smile and an American Flag has switched to wearing all black with a black bike helmet on his head that has antennae attached. I must admit I'd love to know why he switched. I miss the flag.

Be well,

Kate Smith
