Translation Web site

Howdy, all--

I'm passing this to the list in part because I thought many of you
might be interested, and in part because someone e-mailed me with a
query about whether there was a Web site that can do translations. I
didn't save that person's e-mail address but suspect she might be on
SANET. This Web site:

http://babelfish.altavista.digital.com/cgi-bin/translate?

cannot translate from Swedish, which is what that person asked
about. But it does translate from English to French, German, Italian,
Portuguese, and Spanish, and the reverse. I'm not sure what the outer
limit of text is (how many lines/characters). And I would imagine
that it'd do a hilarious job with idioms. But heck, the same is true
for me in my other languages.

That AltaVista page also allows you to use your translated text to
search the Web. Very spiffy.

Credit for the URL goes to Mister 3D in San Francisco's marvelous
Silicon Gulch. I dinked him about this and this URL zoomed back like
an empixellated boomerang hurled by Conan the Barbarian in a vacuum.

peace
