Howdy, all--

These two things came via Associated Press on 9 September 98. Thought
they might interest some of you:

1. H.J. Heinz is selling its Canadian-based bakery products unit to
The Pillsbury Co. for $178 million. Heinz Bakery Products, based in
Mississauga, Ontario, is a $200 million business that makes unbaked
frozen bagels and bread dough for retail, wholesale and food service
outlets in North America.

2. Dow Chemical Co. plans on making "significant" investments in
biotechnology to provide core technology, fund products in genomics,
and acquire technology. The company said Tuesday its Dow AgroSciences
LLC unit plans to continue its internal buildup of biotechnology
research and development, including formation of Advanced
AgriTraits, a clearinghouse for companies seeking alliances and
licensing arrangements for genetic traits, germ plasm, and other
capabilities.

Men protect women, a man once told me indignantly.
Sure, some do. Who do they protect them from?
Other women? Children? Wild rutabagas? Rampaging rabbits?
