Soil Scientist/Agronomist. USDA Agricultural Research Service, Beltsville
Agricultural Research Center, Soil Microbial Systems Laboratory,
Beltsville, MD. Conduct research on soil quality and sustainable farming
practices. Assess impacts of low-purchased input farming practices on soil
quality, crop production and sustainability at the natural resource,
nutrient and system level. Develop and implement new protocols and
analytical procedures for assessing soil-quality changes. This will
include nutrient sequestration in organic compounds to supplement standard
soil chemistry and plant nutrient uptake in alternative farming systems
practices (FSP) study. Provides collaboration and coordination with other
scientists at BARC and extramurally who are involved with FSP. Knowledge of
sustainable farming systems and production practices, including non-
chemical pest control required; ability to design, plan and conduct field
and laboratory research and publish results in scientific journals
required; Ph.D. is desirable. Must be U.S. citizen. Salary range $39-61K.
