There's a great 50-minute video that documents this period, Vavilov's
work, and the Institute with some *powerful* footage. It's "Genetic Time
Bomb", produced in 1996 (?) by John de Graaf and Vivia Boe for Oregon
Public Broadcasting. The most recent prices I have are $39.95 for
individuals or low-income groups and $150 for institutions. The source is
the Video Project at 1-800-4-PLANET (200 Estates Drive, Ben Lomond, CA,
95005). The rest of the film is worthwhile too---it's about declining
crop genetic diversity.
