No, nothing so grandiose! I just meant that the "needs" of society are not
self-evident or easy to determine or agree on, even if monied interests
can be made less dominant.

I think our status quo can be greatly improved, but not by making utopian
assumptions, nor by conveniently forgetting that past attempts at improvement
have sometimes led to societies dominated by much worse things than private
profit. Gardens grow a little at a time, maybe new social arrangements do too.
