info request: "hot" rations?

This is just a quickie info request. I could probably go to the library
and figure it out, but I'm in a bit of a crunch.

What exactly is a "hot" ration for livestock, and does the term only apply
to ruminant animals? Does the term refer to high-protein feeds, to feeding
high quantities of trace minerals, etc.? Is there such a thing as a hot
(or otherwise high-pro and/or unhealthy) ration for layers or broilers?

Thanks in advance,
Rob
