The lesser *resistance* in the U.S. is due to a very successful PR campaign
by Monsanto. I suggest reading Toxic Sludge is Good for You by John Stauber
for details.

The perception that people favor genetic engineered foods is a media
consequence: groups protesting Monsanto's products and corporate actions
don't get much coverage in advertising-supported media.

Groups and individuals have been countering this campaign for years, but
with fewer resources and less media coverage. This to me is the hopeful
news. When we can connect into coalitions, our power will be more effective.
