It appears to me that there is more resistance to GEO in Europe than
in the US. I base that on the general news I hear and/or read here.
I think Monsanto's campaign must also be trying to over come the
Europe has experienced BSE and the US has not at least yet. This is
a big event here still and it would appear that British beef will not
regain market share for along time if ever. There are probably
other events here that cause the difference. Those of you who are on
the list in Europe could help explain this the stronger resistance
Whatever is going on it seems that GEO's are facing a more uphill battle
or a more difficult battle over here.
If GEO's do make it through the regulatory apparatus here and they
are labelled as such, something that Monsanto says it favors in the
adds it has put out and the resistance to their use remains
strong-what then? If food is not labelled then consummers will be
very concerned here.
The alternative could be organic since that(GEO's) has been eliminated at
this time. Remember the fight over the organic rules in the US
regarding this issue. My information was that when the tidal wave of
resistance to that idea came in Monsanto withdrew and said it should
be taken up at a later date. In other words they will be back
trying again because it is the center of their business operation and
they will not want an alternative source of food out there that the
It was exactly what they did with BST in the US-they made it
difficult for people to sell and advertise BST free milk products.
Just some thoughts as I ponder the big picture.
Do you have other thoughts on this. I would like to hear them.
