Specific duties will include:
Obtain a comprehensive understanding of the Northwest dairy industry to
determine key access or leverage points for a market-based approach (e.g.,
pricing structure for milk and other dairy products, distribution systems
for dairy products, dairy industry trends, and major dairy product users).
Analyze the suitability of market incentive tools that may be appropriate
in influencing the adoption of ecologically beneficial dairy management
practices.
Determine potential applicability of existing programs (e.g., Clover
Stornetta’s North Coast Excellence Program, Pennsylvania Dairy Network
Partnership, Farm*A*Syst, etc.)
Identify innovative cost-effective environmentally sound management
practices. Gain a thorough understanding of the environmental impacts of
dairy production. What are the greatest environmental threats of dairy
production? Where have dairies made the most progress? What barriers impede
the adoption of environmentally friendly production practices? Establish
baseline.
Identify key players and dairy stakeholders. What are the major
barriers to using market-based incentives in the dairy industry? What are
the major opportunities? Convene stakeholders meetings throughout the region
to determine level of interest in market-based approaches.
Produce a detailed report with findings and recommendations.
Terms
The Dairy Project Coordinator position is a contract position with the
potential to develop into a permanent position.
The position requires a detailed working knowledge of the dairy industry,
including production, processing and distribution as well as
well-established contacts and networks within the dairy industry. A high
level of credibility and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide
variety of people are needed. Previous experience performing feasibility
studies is preferred, and strong verbal and written communication skills are
required.
The position will require significant travel and a flexible schedule.
Successful candidate will have a proven track record in meeting deadlines
and working independently. Salary DOE. The application deadline is September
